The Story of the Stone
Thirstystone® began selling natural sandstone disks to be used under beverage glasses in 1989. The natural absorbency of the sandstone made Thirstystone Coasters a best seller virtually overnight. The combination of beautiful natural sandstone, exquisite full color artwork, and pure functionality has maintained sales strength for fifteen years.
Thirstystone Quarry - Thirstystone quarries their sandstone in the Southwestern United States using the most environmentally conscious methods to extract the sandstone boulders that will be crafted into Thirstystone coasters.
Rock & Roll - The massive sandstone boulders are transported from the quarries to Thirstystone's manufacturing facility in Tucson, Arizona. The huge boulders are then unloaded into the yard from Thirstystone's truck. Getting to the Core of the Matter The sandstone boulders are core drilled using a large bit that extracts approximately 120 4"-round stone cores from each boulder. Every usable portion of the boulder is utilized to maximize the yield.
A Cut Above the Rest - The sandstone cores are sliced into 3/8" disks, then sent to the Sanding and Set Making Departments where the edges are sanded smooth and the stones are sorted into matching sets. There are no two sets of coasters exactly alike.
A Lasting Impression - Thirstystone's full color artwork is printed on the surface of the matching sets using printing technology developed by Thirstystone.
