Lothantique's Story.

About Lothantique the story of Lothantique Products:

The roots of Lothantique are to be found in Haute - Provence where the inhabitants of the Lure mountain area traditionally earned their living by distilling aromatic plants. This vast garrigue hinterland was shared by goats, sheep, and plants such as lavender and sage, which filled the summer air with their heady fragrances. In the Mouranchon distillery our own grandparents burned tons of lavender, sage and thyme for an annual production of 1 000 litres of these priceless essences catering for a market that was both medicinal and cosmetic. Today Lothantique is more than 10 years old and enjoys international renown. Its activities are based on a continued respect for the quality of life inherent in the ancestral traditions of Provence. The city centres are a far cry from the aridity of the Lure where Denis and Dominique Vogade provide daily evidence that laughter and humour are not incompatible with the spirit of enterprise. Their local know - how, their manufacturing flexibility and efficiency have made them key figures in interpreting for the world the secrets of this haven of time - honored techniques.

History, Facts and Tips about Soaps.

Lothantique SoapsTo wash their family clothing our predecessors soaked it overnight in a tub containing hot water and sifted ashes from the hearth. The water obtained its detergent powers by absorbing the potassium in the ashes. A long and complicated series of operations produced, after the final rinse, a result of surprising cleanliness. The drudgery of the primitive process was eased with the arrival of one of the most famous products of southern France, the hard brown cube known as the "Savon de Marseille" with its unique and inimitable odor. This all - purpose soap was universally used in both the washtub and the bathroom. Its rustic appearance belied a composition rich in vegetables oils which gave it ideal properties for bodily hygiene.

The Lothantique manufacturing process today is based on the simple processes passed down from previous generations with improvements that have made the products more cleansing, softer for the skin and more agreeable to use.

The paste is still made from vegetable compounds which are now enhanced by a wide variety of fragrances and softeners such as karite shea butter whose qualities have become widely recognized. It is then molded into different shapes based on aesthetic and ergonomic criteria. Pure vegetable soap is derived from palm-tree and coprah (cocoa-tree) oils. The label "pure vegetable" is therefore synonymous of benefit for skin through moistening properties. Moreover, we always add in all our soaps karite shea butter, (made from the nut of the so-called tree, grown in Africa) renowned in cosmetics to be one of the most moistening vegetal substances. Fabrication process includes mixing, crushing and extrusion of the three main components : pure vegetal soap flakes, karite shea butter and perfumes.
